Brandon's Story
Afghanistan Combat veteran and Purple Heart recipient, served honorably with 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne
Brandon has been officially diagnosed with PTSD, TBI, and severe anxiety, among other physical and mental struggles. “Life is a battle that I feel like I am losing, I have been through the VA and tried medications and multiple therapists with no luck. A part of me was left behind when I left Afghanistan.”
“My heart races almost all of the time, I don’t do well in public, I have a physiological response to stress. I feel alone, even though I am not, I don’t know who I can trust. I feel like something bad is always going to happen, I’m hyper alert to almost everything. It’s been ten years since my last deployment and the feeling like I’m about to get in a firefight at any given moment still exists. I don’t literally fear anyone shooting at me now, but the anxiety and apprehension still exists. I am fearful I guess, to be honest and I am embarrassed. I am quick to anger at times when the anxiety and PTSD gets to a point of me not being able to suppress it. To sum this up, I feel like I am fighting a ghost. “
“Getting a service dog was recommended by my counselor. After extensive research I feel like this will be life changing.”
